Hugh is an academic and a shut-in. His father's Medal of Honor is accidentally thrown away, and he goes through extreme measures to get it back. A great protagonist and role.

Kathy is a relatively poor woman who dumpster dives with her son Jack at her apartment complex. She steals Hugh's father's medal and suffers the brunt of Hugh's efforts to get it back... A solid role with plenty of screen time!

Jack, Kathy's son, is an unnerving boy who enjoys the outdoors and spending time digging in the trash with his mother. Provides much of the comic relief within the film.
