Dog Star is a graduating film by a group of Swinburne third year students completing their Bachelor of Film and Television.
Although the job is unpaid, actors are welcome to include the film on their showreels. Quicktime or Playable DVDs will be provided, as will catering on the days of shooting.
The film will be shot over three consecutive weekends (Aug 14,15,21,22,28,29) in Geelong and Ballarat.

Margaret
Captain of the high school girls' cricket team, and the only member who's in any way motivated rather than simply being there because she has to. Said motivation is driven by the fact that she's unexceptional in
any other area and feels the need to prove herself. Being the captain of a team nobody cares about, this isn't working. Being a teenager, she's become self-absorbed, angsty and generally unlikeable as a result. (Must look young enough to attend high school).
Females, aged 16 to 22 from Victoria

Joanna
Old friend of Rashmi's, who feels duty-bound to stick by her despite the weapons-grade angst on display. Is also on the cricket team, but doesn't really care one way or the other because she's far more academically inclined and just wants sport to be over with so she can do something else.
The more grounded of the pair, she understands enough of Rashmi's
situation to sympathise, but is also distant enough to see that scowling at it won't help.

Stapledon
Astrophysicist with SETI who is determined to make a name for himself despite all his work being locked down under the Official Secrets Act. Lives in the vain hope that history will vindicate him.
Bitter about the fact he turned down a job on the Large Hadron Collider in order to liaise with aliens, since it's a lot more boring than he imagined.
Has a pathological need to be in charge of every situation, no matter how inane or how many people are actually looking.
Males, aged 30 to 40 from Victoria


Willis
Xenobiologist. Unlike Stapledon, she has no real desire to be remembered as a great pioneer and just treats her work like any other job. Believes Stapledon has the wrong attitude, and deliberately tries to
take him down a peg as often as possible.
Detached from the world around her in a way that suggests either boredom or insanity, but it's more accurate to say that it's a form of Zenlike oneness with the universe.

Sports Teacher
Well, he's a sports teacher. Talks entirely in sports cliches. Very small
role.

Cricket Boy
Captain of the boy's cricket team. Talks entirely in sports cliches, again.
